About

Much of my work is made from porcelain, the tactile  quality and fragility appeals to me. I use both press-moulding and hand-building techniques, often casting from dolls and plastic animals. These techniques allow for crisp lines and untouched surfaces, often leading to forms I was not expecting. The ideas evolve during the process of making.

A lot of the work I create is figurative. Inspiration comes to me from watching other people and observing how emotions are expressed in various postures and gestures. I hope to create sculptures which are both dynamic and playful, if a little macabre at times!

My recent work centres around chrysalises, exploring their various forms in porcelain, I begin by using purely the white clay. Before long I am experimenting, adding colour and often metallic finishes. I hope to capture the chrysalises jewel-like quality and preciousness. They are vessels for metamorphosis, something which never ceases to amaze.
